Request for qualifications issued for Site C main civil works
BC Hydro posted a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) on BC Bid today for main civil works for the Site C Clean Energy Project (Site C). This RFQ initiates a 16-month procurement process with a contract award expected in the summer of 2015, subject to environmental certification, other regulatory permits and authorizations, and approvals to proceed.
Jobs and Economic Development
The construction and operation of Site C would generate economic benefits for British Columbians through job creation, economic development and increased revenues for all levels of government.
Meeting Future Electricity Needs
The demand for electricity in B.C. is forecast to increase by approximately 40 per cent in the next 20 years. Site C would help meet B.C.’s long-term electricity needs.
Community Benefits
Proposed mitigation measures for the construction of Site C include: support for community services, improvements to local infrastructure, revenues from economic activity, new affordable housing units, additional skills training, and expanded recreation and tourism opportunities.
Site C and Wildlife
As part of the environmental review, BC Hydro has assessed the potential effects of Site C on wildlife, and has proposed comprehensive mitigation measures.

Based on the substantial work undertaken to date, BC Hydro concludes the effects of Site C can largely be mitigated through careful project planning, comprehensive mitigation measures and ongoing monitoring during construction and operations.
