HUDSON’S HOPE: On June 26, 2026, BC Hydro will open two new public boat launches on Nááchę Mege (formerly the Site C reservoir), marking a major milestone following the safe completion of reservoir filling in fall 2024. BC Hydro had previously asked the public to stay off the reservoir for about a year after filling to support safety and monitoring efforts.
The new Lynx Creek and Halfway River boat launches will provide the public with new opportunities for safe and managed access to the reservoir. A floating dock installed at the D.A. Thomas Recreation Area will also open on the same day, giving residents and visitors new ways to recreate on the reservoir.
“The safety of the public remains our top priority, and our engineering and geotechnical teams have been keeping a close eye on the reservoir and surrounding slopes,” said Bob Gammer, BC Hydro Community Relations Manager for Northern B.C. “Based on what we’re seeing, we’re ready to open these sites for safe public use. At the same time, we want to thank local communities for their patience and understanding over the past year, because their cooperation has been essential as we carefully monitored conditions and prepared to safely open these sites for everyone to enjoy.”
Reservoir filling began in August 2024 and was completed safely and on schedule in November 2024. Since then, BC Hydro and its geotechnical contractor have continued monitoring slope stability, erosion, and overall reservoir conditions. That work shows the reservoir and nearby slopes are performing as expected. Opening the new boat launches reflects the success of that careful approach.
Nááchę Mege, a name recommended by Doig River First Nation and Blueberry River First Nations, was chosen to reflect the deep history, language and cultural connections Indigenous Peoples have to the region and the Peace River. Nááchę Mege translates to Dreamer Lake in English.
What to know before heading out on the water

- Inform others of your destination and when you plan to return.
- Observe all warning signs and stay well away from BC Hydro's dams and structures.
BC Hydro will continue monitoring conditions closely. More information on these sites, including maps and safety tips, please visit: bchydro.com/recreation.
