Public advisory: Boat launch access to the Peace River

In preparation for filling the Site C reservoir, which could begin as early as this fall, there will be changes in access to the Peace River.

Boat launches in Hudson’s Hope at Lynx Creek and D.A. Thomas Road are now closed.

The Halfway River boat launch will be open this boating season until September, when it will close in preparation for reservoir filling. Due to nearby construction, there may be access delays and intermittent closures.

BC Hydro is building new boat launches to replace the current sites along Highway 29. The replacement boat launches will be located at Halfway River and Lynx Creek, and will feature a day use area, washroom, and interpretive kiosk. There will also be a small-craft launch at the D.A. Thomas recreation area in Hudson’s Hope.

Members of the public are urged to use caution and obey all signage. Recreation sites will stay closed during reservoir filling and for at least one year afterwards, as BC Hydro closely monitors the new reservoir for slope stability and erosion.
